Frosty

Over a decade ago, I painted a similar scene of my little granddaughter building a snowman with our buddy beagle as inspector. Last month, my painting class wanted to learn how to paint such a scene, so we used my original painting as reference and came up with this scene. We love snowmen in our family!

"Escondido"

Several years ago, I painted a little Cottontail rabbit hidden in the weeds and snow along the Provo River. I ran on to him while fly fishing one winter morning. I used it as reference material for the painting class I teach. This time, however, one of my students wanted to do a fawn instead of the rabbit ... I liked the idea and off we went! This is my version of the little guy! One of my little granddaughters told me (when she saw it for the first time), "Grandpa, he looks so cold and alone"! I am glad my efforts evoked that sort of emotion from a little girl ... that is just what I was trying to portray. Must have got it right somehow this time! Enjoy ...

Winter Glow

Our group painting class asked that we do a study that would teach them how to paint a winter scene that could be used as a personalized Christmas card. They chose one of my earlier paintings depicting a quaint little snow covered cabin as a subject. Though we are painting that particular scene, I wanted to try another approach on my own, so I came up with this composition. I enjoyed doing this peaceful scene depicting the soft glow of winter. Winter Shadows

One of my favorite things to paint is snow. The low light of winter creates these long and dense, ere shadows which seem to swallow up the brightness of the winter sun. Acrylic on canvas (24" x 18")

Winter Getaway

One of my work associates commisioned me to do a painting of their family cabin a few months ago. I had a lot of fun with the composition and late afternoon lighting. There's just something about mountain snow and cozy cabins that appeal to me. Original is acrylic on canvas 30"x20".

Winter Light

I love the "low" light of winter. Though it brings snow and dreariness to the landscape, the long, cold shadows are very intriguing to me. Winter fly fishing, for me, is peaceful and quiet. I can usually find a place to fish without too much trouble (not too many other anglers out there!), and the fish are usually very willing to play! The deep blue-violet shadows are underwritten by the intensely contrasting evening light in this painting. Acrylic on canvas (30" x 22")

Winter Spring Creek

I love to fly fish in the winter ... the quiet and solitude are therapeutic. Small streams like this one abound in our mountain valleys and offer a unique outdoor experience. After spending an afternoon in this environment, I just had to come home and paint it! Acrylic on canvas 24"x18".
